HIGHLIGHTS
Ward Melville 68, Lindenhurst 65: Russell Winters made four free throws down the stretch to secure No. 5 Ward Melville's (13-6) Suffolk Class AA first round victory. Winters' final two free throws gave the Patriots a 67-62 lead with 20 seconds left. Winters went 10-for-11 from the line en route to a game-high 33 points. Gabe Brown had 10 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks. Ward Melville won its first playoff game in over two decades, Patriots coach Tom Femminella said. The Patriots will face the winner of No. 4 North Babylon/No. 13 Northport in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
